Merri’s Septmber 2024 Platform
Informed decision making
Councillors should have all the information needed to make well informed decisions, on an ongoing basis.
The Local Government Act says the role of a Councilor is to “make considered and well-informed decisions as a member of the governing body.”
Community members are our asset. Bring them into discussions early, harness their knowledge, and acknowledge the contribution community members can make.
Make Council decision making transparent. Councillors are accountable for decisions and omissions.
Protect and share community assets
and resources
Slow down - Council should finish what it has started and look after the assets it has.
The worth of assets is in the value they bring to the community, not just the bottom line of a financial statement.
Review Council’s asset portfolio and ensure assets are used to the maximum benefit of the whole community.
Open space is scarce and should be a shared resource.
Stop fighting between stakeholders and talk together about how this can be achieved.
Developments must be community focused and appropriate
The provision of affordable rental housing should be an integral part of high-density development.
Our bushland and waterways are some of the most loved aspects of Lane Cove. Protect them against the impacts of development.
Give Council support to community members impacted by development.
Support more neighbourhood-centred activities across the Local Government Area (LGA). The Lane Cove Village is not the centre of the world for all Lane Cove LGA residents.
Impacts on future generations - environmental and financial - should underpin every decision of Council.
Link our community - prioritise the delivery of Council’s Bicycle Plan and other active transport links.
