Informed Independent Councillors and an informed community

Merri Southwood is the Mayor of Lane Cove and an Independent Councillor for East Ward.

When electing Councillors to represent them, community members should be confident that community views will be listened to and respected.

Community members should expect that their elected Councillors ensure they have all the facts before making decisions and have all the facts after decisions are made.

They should expect transparency around Council processes and decision-making.

And, they have the right to be represented by a person who is not voting as a member of a coalition of the major political parties.

I worked hard in my first term to meet these expectations, but there is more to do.
